บทคัดย่อ

บทความวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษา 1) ปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อการตัดสินใจเข้าร่วมโครงการ Work and Travel ของนักศึกษา 2) ชีวิตขณะเข้าร่วมโครงการ และ 3) ประโยชน์ที่นักศึกษาได้รับภายหลังจากการเข้าร่วมโครงการ Work and Travel โดยการศึกษาในครั้งนี้เป็นการศึกษาวิจัยเชิงปริมาณ (Quantitative Research) แบบตัดขวาง (Cross-sectional study) โดยมีประชากรเป้าหมายเป็นนักศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรีที่เดินทางเข้าร่วมโครงการ Work and Travel ระหว่างวันที่ 1 มกราคม พ.ศ. 2565 ถึงวันที่ 31 ธันวาคม พ.ศ. 2566 โดยเก็บข้อมูลผ่านการเข้าถึงกลุ่มตัวอย่างด้วยเทคนิคสโนว์บอล (snowball sampling) โดยเป็นการคัดเลือกตัวอย่างด้วยวิธีการสุ่มแบบเจาะจง (purposive sampling) ผ่านการใช้แบบสอบถาม (questionnaire) จำนวน 124 คน

ผลการศึกษาพบว่า 1) ปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อการเข้าร่วมโครงการ Work and Travel แบ่งเป็น 2 ปัจจัยคือ ปัจจัยผลักดันจากประเทศต้นทาง (ประเทศไทย) ได้แก่ ปัจจัยทางสังคม ได้แก่ การได้รับการชักชวนจากคนใกล้ชิด การได้เห็นคนรอบตัวเข้าร่วมโครงการ และความต้องการพบปะผู้คนใหม่ ๆ นอกจากนี้ยังมีปัจจัยดึงดูดจากประเทศปลายทาง (ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา) ได้แก่ ปัจจัยแลกเปลี่ยนทางวัฒนธรรม ได้แก่ การสร้างเสริมประสบการณ์ชีวิต และการแลกเปลี่ยนวัฒนธรรมใหม่ ๆ 2) ในด้านของชีวิตขณะเข้าร่วมโครงการ พบว่า นักศึกษามักใช้เวลาส่วนใหญ่ไปกับการทำงาน และนอกเหนือจากเวลานั้นจะใช้เวลาว่างไปกับงานอดิเรกที่ตนเองสนใจ 3) ในส่วนของประโยชน์ที่นักศึกษาได้รับภายหลังจากการเข้าร่วมโครงการพบว่า นักศึกษาได้รับประโยชน์ในด้านของการแลกเปลี่ยนภาษาและวัฒนธรรม การมีเครือข่ายทางสังคม และการได้ออกเดินทางท่องเที่ยวทั่วสหรัฐอเมริกา

Abstract

          This research article aimed to examine 1) the factors influencing students' decisions to participate in the Work and Travel program, 2) their experiences during the program, and 3) the benefits they gained afterward. This study employed a quantitative, cross-sectional research design, targeting undergraduate students who joined the Work and Travel program between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2023. Data collection was conducted using the snowball sampling technique and purposive sampling, with a sample size of 124 respondents who completed a questionnaire.

          The study findings revealed 1) two main factors influencing students' participation in the Work and Travel program. The first was the push factor from the home country (Thailand), including social influences such as encouragement from close acquaintances, observing others’ participation in the program, and the desire to meet new people. The second was the pull factor from the destination country (United States), particularly the opportunity for cultural exchange, such as gaining life experience and exposure to new cultures. 2) Regarding students' experiences during the program, most of their time was spent working, with free time dedicated to personal hobbies. 3) Post-program benefits included language and cultural exchange, expanded social networks, and opportunities to travel across the United States.
